The City is My Beach is a new series of sculptures based on my walks through
the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn during the pandemic. Discoveries of discarded metal refuse and gathering small machine parts mimicked my childhood foraging of
shells on the beaches of Massachusetts. Each piece blends the language of
wonder, consumption, and decay into an individual time capsule.
Buried Below is a series of sculptures made with raw black clay. Each piece is intended to evoke a sense of time and suggest the eventual mortality of nature through the intense color, broken edges, cracked layers and perforated forms.
